World-famous manufacturers often have higher requirements than other providers. Often assuring the especially high quality and the simultaneous fast processing are contrary to each other. A well-known came to Metzner with these requirements.
Faster machining and better quality
In order to satisfy the increasing demand, a company from Austria looked for a solution to make production more effective, and to further improve the quality at the same time. The solution: Two automatic machines for cutting the individual snowboard parts made of high-tech materials. Metzner was awarded to design and to implement these customized machines. The systems had to have the following capabilities: Exact cutting of the fibre glass and carbon foil and mats, as well as the exact placement of the cut parts on movable transportation equipment. In addition, the system has to count the number of deposited parts and stop it automatically once the desired batch size is reached so that the dolly can be exchanged. Furthermore, the system should offer a higher processing speed than before and be freely programmable for the various snowboard materials.
The implementation
The material to be processed is fastened to a driven material dereeler (maximum capacity 100 kg) and fed to a dancer, which feeds the material to the system exactly positioned and tension-free. Since Elan cuts snowboard foils in various sizes on the machine, the free programming of cutting length, piece number, stack offset, material thickness, piece number per stack and production speed are a precondition and can be selected easily on the operating display. After loading the production program, the machine works on its own and cuts the material to the desired length. When cutting the fibre glass and carbon foils, special attention was given to precision, since the thinner the material to be cut is, the more difficult it is to cut. In order to guarantee constant cutting quality, Metzner integrated a cutting module with precision guides.
Stacking and transport
Finally, the machine stacks the cut material onto a dolly. The machine automatically recognizes the number of stacked foils and stops cutting at a pre-defined number until the material has been removed. For the entire machining process, the machine requires seven seconds per piece. Both systems are operated by one worker. |
